The Career Compass is a set of interactive activities designed to help you explore your future work and personal growth in a way that’s tailored for New Zealand. It’s built around three key areas: Interests, Values, and Motivation.
Interests help you discover the types of careers and work tasks that naturally engage you. Using tools like the RIASEC code and New Zealand career examples, you can identify fields where your strengths and preferences align, giving you a clear picture of what kinds of work you might enjoy most.
Values focus on what matters to you in a job and work environment. From creativity and problem-solving to helping others, work-life balance, financial rewards, and wellbeing, this activity clarifies the principles and priorities that will make your work meaningful and satisfying.
Motivation explores your personal skills, strengths, and wellbeing across four dimensions: Highlighting motivated skills, areas for development and burntout skills.
🧠 Taha Hinengaro – Mental & Emotional Wellbeing – your ability to solve problems, learn quickly, and make responsible choices.
🧑🤝🧑 Taha Whānau – Social Wellbeing – how you work with others, build relationships, and lead respectfully.
💪Taha Tinana – Physical Wellbeing – practical skills, organisation, and keeping yourself and others safe.
🌿Taha Wairua & Whenua – Spiritual, Values-Based, and Environmental Wellbeing – aligning work with your values, helping your community, and caring for the environment.
💡 Applied, Creative & Enterprise Skills - your ability to generate ideas, solve problems creatively, communicate clearly, and take initiative to lead projects or bring new ideas to life.
The Career Compass was carefully designed by Inner Scope with New Zealanders in mind to guide meaningful career decisions, connect your personal strengths and values to real-world opportunities, and help you thrive in work and life.
